The Student Government at Red Lake Nation College (RLNC) is an integral part of the college’s governance structure, serving as a representative body for the student community. Comprising eight student representatives selected through annual elections, the Student Government operates within the framework of approved by-laws to fulfill their responsibilities.
The leadership structure of the Student Government includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, each playing a distinct role in the organization. Membership is open to all enrolled Red Lake Nation College students, emphasizing inclusivity and democratic participation. Regular monthly meetings provide a platform for students to actively engage with the Student Government, and to contribute to the decision-making process.
The primary responsibilities of the Student Government revolve around advocating for and supporting initiatives that enhance the quality of American Indian Higher Education. This involves coordinating various activities and events that align with the organization’s mission. Regular and special business meetings are conducted to address matters essential to achieving the organization’s goals.
Transparency and communication are key priorities, with the Student Government committed to informing all constituents about its business actions and organizational activities. By serving as a liaison between the student body and the Administration, the Student Government ensures that student concerns are effectively communicated and addressed.
Financial stewardship is another crucial aspect of the Student Government’s role. It is tasked with developing a yearly budget and allocating student fees in a responsible manner. This financial planning contributes to the sustainability and success of the organization’s initiatives and endeavors.
